CM's claim that Delhi is like New York !!!!
Rain washes away CM's claim that Delhi is like New York
INDIA TODAY ONLINE NEW DELHI, AUGUST 17, 2013 | UPDATED 12:09 IST

Sheila Dikshit
So, on Independence Day, when she compared Delhi to New York and Singapore, little did she know what was coming her way, for the very next day, the rains washed away all her claims of having created a city that was at par with any of the leading metropolitan cities of the world.
Delhi received about 15.6 mm of rain between 8:30 am on Thursday and 8:30 am on Friday. The chaos caused by the rain--waterlogging, traffic jams--almost brough the city to a grinding halt.
Reports poured in from all over the city about traffic jams caused due to massive waterlogging.
Meanwhile, the Opposition, never one to give up a good chance to target the CM, had a field day rubbing the government and the CM's nose in the mud.
They said that Sheila appears to be living in an ivory tower and is completely cut-off from ground realities.

We know from history that the ninth Sikh Guru Tegh Bahadur gave up his life, to be killed by Emperor Aurangzeb, in order to protect Hindus against conversion/death.
The following email Forward, copy-pasted as such, contains details in accordance with historical facts.
QUOTE BEGINS
It was the year 1675 AD; Bharat was enduring indescribable miseries, trampled under foot of Islamic rulers.
It was during that period, that a delegation of about 500 Kashmir Brahmins led by Pundit Kripa Ram metGuru Tej Bahadur at Anandapur Saheb with their harrowing experiences and tales of torture by Aurangzeb forcing Hindus to convert to Islam.
The choice was “Convert-Or-Perish”
The choice was “Convert-Or-Perish”
Guru Tej Bahadur took upon himself the task of rescuing not just the Kashmir Brahmins but the entire Hindu society.
But why was Aurangzeb bent upon converting the Kashmir Pundits in the first place? Even this has a History.
But why was Aurangzeb bent upon converting the Kashmir Pundits in the first place? Even this has a History.
Aurangzeb vexed with the enigma of thriving Hindu presence in Bharat, despite centuries of Muslim rule, vis-à-vis, the total annihilation of native cultures in other Muslim lands, called his Court to Order one day and beseeched them for a solution. His council of advisors then suggested that the Seat of Hindu thought and inspiration must be identified and destroyed; they conclusively opined that, this was the only sure way of ensuring that the perennial flow of faith is put to an end.
Having said this, Banaras (Kashi) was identified as the Seat of Hindu faith and the Brahmins of Banaras were identified as its custodians; they were pulled up and were, in the usual Muslim way of Torture, Cruelty, Torment, Rape etc., asked to convert.
Aurangzeb then repeated the same (Torture, Cruelty, Torment, Rape etc) on the Kashmir Brahmins i.e.Kashmiri Pundits as well.

Those were the days when the Sikhs were the army of the Hindus; and were approached by the Kashmir Brahmins.
The little boy Gobind Rai (later the legendary tenth and the last Guru of the Sikhs), the light of the Khalsa movement, the beacon who showed the world, what unquestioned obedience is, by way of the “panch-pyaara”, was at that time 9 years old, and was sitting beside his father, Guru Teg Bahadur – who, most gallantly took upon himself the responsibility of Protection of the Hindu faith, which at that time almost was in a limbo. Tegh Bahadur told the Kashmir Brahmins to go and tell Aurangzeb that:-
1. Kashmir Pundits would convert to Islam if Guru Teg Bahadur converts.
2. Thereafter the Brahmins of Banaras would convert and then
3. The entire Hindu faith would eventually convert to Islam

2. Thereafter the Brahmins of Banaras would convert and then
3. The entire Hindu faith would eventually convert to Islam
Delighted at such an easy solution of converting the entire Hindu people into Islam, Aurangzeb invited Guru Teg Bahadur Ji to Delhi. Guru Teg Bahadur along with his disciples Bhai Mati Das, Bhai Dyal Das and Bhai Sati Das, went to Delhi and met Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb. The great Guru held extensive discussions on Religious, Philosophical, Spiritual, Logical, Scientific and even Mundane matters to dissuade Aurangzeb from converting Hindus to Islam.
But what did an Islamic dogmatist that Aurangzeb was, understand of the counsel of a great Guru?
Aurangzeb was deeply disappointed and disillusioned and seething with vengeance made two offers to Guru Teg Bahadur-
either embrace Islam or face beheading.

either embrace Islam or face beheading.
The great Guru preferred to get beheaded than to convert to Islam. Aurangzeb ordered that Guru Teg Bahadur and disciples should be killed.
Aurangzeb who was considered to be a fervent follower of the religion of peace (Islam) unveiled his brand of Islamic peace and benevolence on 11.11.1675 and made History.
The following is a portrayal of the pinnacle of Islamic Peace:-
Right in the presence of the great Guru, his disciples were done to death one after the other.
1. Bhai Mati Das while standing erect was tied between two posts. He was asked if he had any parting words, to which Mati Das answered, “I request only that my head be turned toward my Guru as I am executed.” Two executioners placed a double-handed saw on his head. Mati Das serenely uttered “Ek Onkar” and started reciting the Japji Sahib, the great morning prayer of the Sikhs. He was sawn across from head downwards.
2. Bhai Dyal Das abused the Emperor and his courtiers for this act. He was tied up like a round bundle and thrown into a huge cauldron of boiling oil. He was boiled alive in a block of charcoal.
3. Bhai Sati Das condemned these brutalities. He was wrapped round with cotton and burnt alive and then he was hacked to pieces limb by limb.
Then Guru Teg Bahadur was beheaded.
All this happened on 11th November, 1675 at the Chandni Chowk, Delhi, under the orders of Emperor Aurangzeb.
Now the question arises:-
1. Why should Guru Teg Bahadur become a martyr, when he had all chances to escape inhuman torture and death?
2. Why should Bhai Mati Das,Dyal Das and Sati Das die, when they too have had all chances to escape merciless torture and death?
3. For whom did they endure all the inhuman suffering and made all these sacrifices?

2. Why should Bhai Mati Das,Dyal Das and Sati Das die, when they too have had all chances to escape merciless torture and death?
3. For whom did they endure all the inhuman suffering and made all these sacrifices?
They suffered and sacrificed so that Hindus can live. How many Hindus of these days know all this? Let us know about it and pay our respects to them for the supreme sacrifice they made for the sake of Hindu dharma. Let every Hindu, henceforth include Sis Ganj Gurudwara (delhi) where the Guru was martyred, in their itinerary of pilgrimage. Without a visit to Sis Ganj Gurudwara our pilgrimage would be incomplete.Let’s not leave anything incomplete.
Note:-Aurangzeb’s progenies continued the tradition of burning and roasting Hindus alive. They kept up the holy tradition when they attacked Sabarmati Express train, near Godhra railway station (Gujarat) on 27th February 2002, and cruelly roasted 58 devout Hindu karsevaks alive, including 25 women and 15 children. Our anti-Hindu sovereigns still worship His highness Shahenshah-e-Aurangzeb-al-Alamgir by naming a very important road in Delhi. The road is named as Aurangzeb road.

THE ROT IN THE INDIAN ARMY -PART TWO
In Part One, I had brought out the extent, ramifications and fangs of the cancerous rot in the army and its dangers to Indian nation. In this part, I would highlight its dimensions and manifestations with emphasis on how and when the rot started.
"----------Indian army functions in 'NO WAR-NO PEACE' environs-----No war for the Generals and No Peace for the Soldiers-----Generals have enough time to indulge in merry -making and Soldiers have No time to attend to their basic needs. Soldiers are getting frustrated and Generals are getting compensated for their inaction. Army is today commanded by Contractors, Arms dealers and manipulative bureaucrats---Generals have abdicated Generalship to them-----We sure have a rising storm of corruption--------"---------- My answer to a collegue during our discussion on "What ails the Indian Army", some 15 years back.
Let me, at the outset only, clarify that corruption in the army, as anywhere else, is incurable and cancerous because of a wrong treatment to eradicate it. Corruption is sustained because of its 'Top-Down' growth but 'Bottom-Top' approach to treat it. Unless one batters the head of a snake, it won't be killed; so is corruption. For too long, army had been sweeping under the carpet the misdeeds of her GENERALS. It is this serpentine head which General VK Singh had set upon to severe and hammer down, little realising that its head had a protective shield of its snake-charmer's box and its poisonous fangs were too strong for his guarded strike.
Many years back, almost 30 years, I had read CRISIS IN COMMAND by Richard Gabriel and Paul Savage, profiling the US army after Vietnam fiasco. The duo had identified the ills that had afflicted US army, then. I am constrained to point out that Indian army today is in the same boat, though the scenario might be different. All the votaries of HOLY COW image of ARMY or 'OUR GLORIOUS ARMY' must get out of their enchanted slumber and stem the rot.
It is truism that no subordinate can resort to corruption unless the boss was himself corrupt. We hear of cases in the civil walk of life where regular shares of 'hush- money' are distributed from top to bottom. Similarly, corruption has been institutionalized in the army and it runs exactly on the same pattern as in the civil walk of life. All the threads of this institutionalized corruption lead to Generalship of Indian Army. It varies from sale of liquor and CSD stores to foreign postings, courses and promotions. It is sad but true that Generals of the Indian army now-a-days face court martial and disciplinary action as never before.
Let it be absolutely clear to us that GENERALSHIP of the Indian army was no more an edifice of sanctity. Therefore, as ‘Generalship’ has gone astray, corruption has become a revered phenomenon in our so called ‘Glorious Army.’ There is no point ordering court martial of NCOs, JCOs, Majors and Colonels for acts of omission and commission. Army suffers from the ‘Top-down’ effect of this phenomenon. It is due to this that our army’s name has been muddied and we have lost credibility in the civil street. Yes, the ‘Generalship’ of the Indian army has lost its moorings of moral ascendency over their subordinates, thus loosening its own grip over the rank and file of the army. The ‘Generalship’ is disoriented and self centered. How else do you expect them to get involved in selling truck loads of canteen stores and liquor? How else do you see them hobnobbing with contractors and businessmen?
'Tehlka- expose' provided a glimpse of the rut that had set in the army. But no corrective actions were taken. The trouble with army’s remedial therapy is its lopsided focus. Instead of eradication of the disease, it lays emphasis on the treatment of a patient. How could it be possible when those who have to take action are themselves not worthy of holding such high ranks? The corruption in the higher ranks is deep and all pervasive. And every time a case is highlighted, there is an attempt to sweep the case under the carpet by allowing GENERALS to retire. It is this tendency to dither and sweep cases of corruption by very senior officers under the carpet that honesty has become a rare virtue in the army.

A recent revelation on attempts to bribe the Army chief and his resultant spat with the MOD has brought out a fact that something seriously was wrong within the army and its top brass. It is evident from the fact that a senior retired army officer has been accused of attempting to offer a bribe to the army chief. He was approached because it must have been a practice for sometime. Not withstanding the moral grandstanding of the army men, where not only they but even men in the street, considered them as "Holy Cow", it implies that some rot had set in the armed forces. General VK Singh has called it a CANCER in an interview to an Indian daily,'The Hindu' . Most veterans see him as a person who might become a martyr in his bid to rid the army of a powerful cartel of arms- dealers. He might lose but he would have done enough damage to the corrupt officers within the armed forces. They would never be comfortable in working for corrupt and dishonest.
Many reasons are offered on General VK's unprecedented act of openly admitting bribe offer. Whatever his intentions but he had revealed that rot had set in deep, which forced him to call it a cancer? Ironically, how cynical are the people who criticise him on the grounds that his motives and timings were questionable, while they were not concerned about the cancer that was eating up the Army---the last institute standing straight to defend Indian democracy and border integrity. General VK has also minced no words to hint out that it was the legacy handed over to him. His detractors and critics must wake up to the dangers posed to the nation by the malaise he has exposed with whatever motive. As true Indians FACE THE REALITY or GET READY TO PERISH.
I intend to explore this cancerous rot in two parts. In Part- I will explain the legacy of the rot and its manifestations alongwith dangerous repercussions to the nation. In Part-2 I will dwell upon how and when it started and where we stand today.
PART ONE
WHAT IS THE DANGER TO THE NATION?
What better way to explain this danger than seeing it through the eyes of someone from a different field. Here is what, a very very senior retired IAS officer, who knows what is the truth , has to say:-

The open feud between the Ministry of Defence and the Chief of the Army Staff arose out of the contrived Date of Birth controversy. A corrupt cabal had conspired since 2006 to truncate Gen VK Singh’s tenure by digging out UPSC application form and trashing his School Certificate.

The people of Bulgaria, fed up of a weak, corrupt and apathetic government, took to the streets to demand the Prime Minister’s resignation. Seven weeks of continuous protests failed to move the government, the PM refusing to resign. Frustrated and exasperated, thousands of protestors surrounded the parliament, with a sizeable number of MPs and journalists trapped inside. There ensued a prolonged standoff, with the peaceful protests turning violent when the police attempted to break through the barricades and evacuate the parliamentarians.
The ignition point triggering the protests was the appointment of a media mogul as the head of the national security agency, but people’s resentment stemmed from “a government dominated by murky business interests” and “private interests controlling state institutions”. The government remained insensitive to people’s sentiments even as protests were on – the parliament “voted in the first draft of a highly contentious budget deal, which sanctioned the emission of one billion BGN in debt, ostensibly to boost social welfare policies.” Sounds familiar?
People in India have also been increasingly vociferous about their dissatisfaction with the way the country is being governed – or rather, to be precise, the lack of governance. We witnessed the spontaneous outpouring of rage as an aftermath to the horrendous Delhi gang-rape in December. The protestors were ordinary people, probably out on the streets to make their voices heard for the first time. And while the barbaric rape and subsequent death of the young girl became the rallying point, it was actually the deep seated anger and resentment with the political class in general and the government in particular, that was behind the swelling ranks of protestors. The remarkable feature of the fortnight long protests was the complete absence of any leadership or political direction. The few times some politicians tried to cash in on the popular sentiment they were promptly put in their place by the resolute protestors.
The protests died down following the typical assurances by the government, and people returned to their troubled lives. A commission was appointed and submitted its report in record time. Trial of the accused in the case that sparked protests started, and continues. As do rapes in Delhi and elsewhere in the country – with regular frequency and increasing barbarity. The government gets increasingly apathetic and arrogant in its attitude towards the plight of the common citizens – be it the safety of women or the back breaking rise in prices. Scams and scandals continue to break, each more brazen and with a bigger price tag to the taxpayer than the previous. And in the midst of all this, Indian politicians continue to insult people’s intelligence with platitudes, jargon and rhetoric.
It is interesting that whether it is India or Bulgaria, or for that matter Egypt, the people are getting more vociferous and reactionary in demanding their dues from their elected representatives. Conversely, the representatives also uniformly remain apathetic and insensitive to their demands, leading to the street protests across continents.
The big disconnect between the government and the governed probably gives the former a false sense of security and insularity. Modus operandi of the Indian politicians has long been to use caste, religion, pseudo secularism and regionalism as an opiatic substitute to governance – to law and order, infrastructure, creation of jobs and similar functions that people expect in return of their franchise and taxes. And, like parents of the yore, they believe that people should be seen (in election rallies only), and not heard (ever). And like it often happens with lies and yarns, they seem to have started believing firmly in their own. The absolute disconnectedness from reality was displayed by stalwarts andspokesmen of some parties when they spoke about the availability of cheap food in various parts of the country.
The people’s frustration rises from the double whammy of the fact that the alternatives to the corrupt and inefficient government don’t inspire too much confidence either. The institutions such as the law enforcement and investigative agencies have been effectively neutered or selectively empowered to act in accordance with political expediency of their masters. Whenever there are attempts by any external agency to enforce a degree of probity or accountability in them, the political class as a whole closes ranks. When the Chief Information Commissioner ruled that political parties are under the purview of the Right to Information (RTI) Act, there was near political consensus against this and the cabinet approved an amendment to the act to prevent this. When the Supreme Court ruled that criminals in jails cannot fight elections, an all party meeting promptly ‘expressed concern’over judicial overreach. It is ominous that the latest move to tinker with judicial appointments has engendered uncharacteristic bonhomie between bitter opponents across political lines. And the graphic below shows why – criminalization cuts across party lines.
So, if the government is corrupt and inefficient; the opposition opportunistic, weak and probably also corrupt; the legal system being willfully rendered ineffective – what recourse do the people have? The global trend of popular street protests, with Bulgaria as its latest focus, is an indication that the citizens of 21st century are not content with waiting for the next elections to express their dissatisfaction through the ballot. The politicians must wake up and smell the coffee or disregard the warning signs at their own peril, as their insularity is no longer a given.
